Today, Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis sent a letter to Gateway National Recreation Area’s Superintendent Jennifer Nersesian urging her to three potential solutions to open Miller Field on time so Staten Island’s youth will have a field to play on when soccer season begins next month.

“My office has partnered with the NPS to provide volunteers annually to do cleanups and property maintenance in the past. We can certainly put together a group of volunteers to do the necessary work for the field voluntarily. Another option is putting NPS in touch with other government agencies or non profit organizations that maintain large pieces of land and are familiar with the equipment used by NPS staff to mow lawn and maintain property. A third option I urge you to explore would be for NPS to temporarily redirect its current staff to the maintenance of Miller Field to get it up and running for the season.” writes Malliotakis
