In a statement today, Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis reiterated the call she and her colleagues made for New York City beaches, golf courses and tennis courts to be opened.

“While the governor is announcing states like New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Delaware will begin to open beaches the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, at limited capacity, with masks and practicing social distancing, New York City is again being left behind as Mayor de Blasio refuses to open city beaches, golf courses, and tennis courts. My colleagues and I continue to reiterate that these public spaces should be open for recreation as it is crucial to physical and mental health. Mayor de Blasio has begun to shut down what will be 100 miles of streets for people to be able to walk around while keeping these public facilities closed. It is both nonsensical and a double standard.”

Attached is the letter Malliotakis and her colleagues sent Mayor de Blasio and Commissioner Silver on May 6th.
