Attached, please find a letter Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis sent to Governor Cuomo regarding the Port Authority’s recent proposal to reduce discounts for drivers commuting from Staten Island.

In the letter, the Assemblywoman points to the new two-way tolling system for the Verrazzano Bridge as a potential cause of these changes due to the way it will shift revenue from the Port Authority to the MTA, resulting in the implementation of these measures to make up for the shortfall.

“Adding insult to injury, it is my belief that these changes are being made because Congress intends to pass legislation to implement a two-way toll on the Verrazzano Bridge, altering traffic patterns and shifting toll money from the Port Authority to the MTA and the Port Authority is now trying to recoup its revenue loss on the backs of commuters by reducing our discount.”
